Nearly 500 refugees, including women and children, from Yemen have arrived in Djibouti’s coastal city of Obock, according to the country’s minister of economy and finance, Ilyas Dawaleh.
Dawaleh wrote on X that the refugees were rescued at sea from boats stranded without fuel.
At least 46,000 people have been displaced in Yemen since fighting escalated last week, the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Friday.
Yemeni government-run Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps said 1,367 families were displaced on 8 September alone in the provinces of Taiz, Al-Hudaydah and Lahj.
The first humanitarian consequences of the war in #Yemen have already reached #Djibouti’s shores.
