The Manali New Town police have on Thursday arrested an engineering graduate for duping people into handing over their money by showing fake screenshots of transfers made through digital wallets.The case came to light after M. Boshniya, 27, who works at a net centre in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, lodged a complaint. A man approached her while she was on duty last Tuesday and offered to transfer ₹35,000 through GPay in exchange for cash, with a commission for the transaction.After showing her a screenshot purportedly confirming the transfer, he collected the cash and fled. Boshniya later checked the centre’s bank account and found that no money had been credited.Based on her complaint, the police examined CCTV footage from the centre and identified the suspect as Sabari, 32, a native of Harur in Dharmapuri district.A special team led by Inspector Ananthakumar traced him to a private lodge in Koyambedu and arrested him.The police said he had been arrested in similar cases involving online transaction frauds in Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, and Salem districts, in which he allegedly cheated victims of around ₹15 lakh.
