US stocks were poised to end the week on a positive note, as oil’s upward momentum took a hit and after August consumer price data cleared a path for the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates next week.
Policymakers will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a statement to be released at 4am AEST on Thursday. The probability of a 25 basis point increase rose to 86.5 per cent, according to the CME’s FedWatch metric, up from 72.4 per cent the previous day and 59.4 per cent a week earlier.
