GameStop Revives Select Locations Amid Retail Reset
GameStop posted on X, “Your local GameStop is back. Select closed stores are now reopening nationwide starting September 11,” signaling a notable reversal after the company shuttered hundreds of locations over the past two years as part of a broader cost-cutting and diversification strategy. GameStop’s U.S. store count has fallen from more than 2,900 in early 2024 to under 1,600 as the retailer shifted focus toward collectibles, trading cards and its balance sheet.
The reopening announcement suggests the company may be finding a more stable footprint after years of consolidation, though GameStop has not detailed which locations are affected or how many stores will reopen.
