Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive on Saturday morning on a 24-hour visit for the BRICS summit and a substantive bilateral dialogue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that would give broad political direction to ties and could set in place the framework to boost economic partnership to reduce yawning trade deficit and ensure predictability of supply chains.Xi, on his visit to India after seven years, will be accompanied by a big delegation and will depart on Sunday afternoon, ET has learnt. However, progress to improve the overall health of ties has been slow but steady. The Line of Actual Control has been largely incident-free over the past year.Sources familiar with the India-China ties reiterated that the state of the border will decide the state of bilateral ties. Ahead of Xi’s visit, India and China had last month reached an eight-point understanding to improve border management measures for stabilising LAC.
