The Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Advocates for Children & Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), Ebenezer Omejalile, has criticised the difficulties Nigerians face while attempting to renew their passports in the United Kingdom, alleging that applicants are subjected to multiple charges and technical problems on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) online application platform.
Omejalile said he encountered difficulties after paying £230 for his passport renewal, only to be asked to make additional payments of £78 for biometric verification through the contactless application and another £20 fee.
He said that despite completing the required processes and successfully submitting his biometric information, the application logged him out and instructed him to apply for a physical appearance.
Omejalile made this known on Thursday while appearing on Channels Television, where he spoke about the cost of passport renewal and problems associated with accessing and using the NIS online portal.
