Drivers appear to be getting increasingly fed up with car touchscreens – and there's good reason, as a new study shows how distracting they are.

In a test of 21 new cars, automotive consumer platform What Car? studied not only how long infotainment screens keep your eyes off the road in general, but which cars' screens are the most distracting for drivers.

And the results were concerning: doing simple tasks such as changing the radio station can take up to 81 seconds on some cars – a dangerous amount of time for the driver to be distracted.

The worst infotainment screens belonged to the Honda HR-V SUV and Suzuki e-Vitara, which were both awarded just one star by What Car? judges.

What Car?'s study also highlighted how good quality voice control can reduce distractions and allow the driver to command the car to carry out simple tasks in a matter of seconds.
