Apple has been dealing with higher prices for memory and storage components as demand from AI-focused data centres puts pressure on global supply. Reuters reported that Apple attributed the broader price increases to rising memory and storage chip costs, with India seeing some of the steepest increases.Earlier in 2026, Apple had already raised prices for several other products while keeping iPhones largely insulated from the component-cost pressure. Industry reporting has also linked the smartphone sector’s price increases to the global memory shortage. Counterpoint Research previously reported that rising memory prices were contributing to weaker smartphone shipments in India. How does the iPhone 18 launch change Apple’s pricing strategy? The time for the rise is important however, Apple usually slashes prices to make old models of iPhone's cheaper upon their newest release and thereby provide an entry level of smartphones to the consumer that do not require the latest model. The opposite has been implemented this time round where a starting price of iPhone 18 Pro has been confirmed to be Rs 1,64,900, iPhone 18 Pro Max and an opening of Rs 1,79,900 whereas its first ever foldable iPhoneDuo costs Rs 2,99,900. Buyers do not have an opportunity to purchase an already cheap Pro version and receive the newest phone without paying for its new found characteristics.Read Also
