Navi Mumbai airport hopes to add international destinations with a one-year waiver in landing charges following a modification in its tariff order. In May, the Airport Economics Regulatory Authority (AERA) issued a tariff order for Navi Mumbai airport approving a variable fee structure. As per the order, concessions in landing fees would be applicable to a new route from Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Now the airport sector regulator has modified it’s order to enable concessional rates for new routes from Navi Mumbai airport. AERA issued the revision on Tuesday on Navi Mumbai airport’s request.The order comes as Adani group plans to shift one third of international flights from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai airport. As per AERA order airlines will receive full waiver on landing charges in the first year. The quantum of discounts will reduce for second and third year.Currently Navi Mumbai is only linked with Abu Dhabi by Air India Express which operates three weekly services. In its submission to AERA last month, Navi Mumbai airport said airlines are unwilling to commence international flights resulting in underutilisation of infrastructure. “The airlines have attributed this reluctance to the quantum of aeronautical tariffs notwithstanding the concession granted by the approved variable tariff plan. Further Navi Mumbai airport has highlighted the impact of prolonged geo-political conflicts resulting in higher fuel prices, airspace closure, insurance charges and depressed demand due to which carriers are more risk averse to committing international capacity at new airports,” AERA said in its order.
