Adani group-run Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has asked airlines to shift over 30 per cent of international flights from terminal 2 to Navi Mumbai from October.
The airport operator has informed the Civil Aviation Ministry and initiated discussions with airlines regarding the proposal.
MIAL has proposed partial shifting of international operations to Navi Mumbai as it wants to redevelop terminal 1 in phases from January 2027. In the first phase, the airport operator has proposed redevelopment of the North section of terminal 1B that caters to around 5 million passengers annually. To facilitate that, it wants to move 30 per cent of flights from T1 to T2 and 30 per cent of international flights from T2 to Navi Mumbai.At present IndiGo, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Star Air have operations at T1. Akasa Air moved its domestic flights to T2 in August as a part of operational realignment, MIAL said.In a letter to the Ministry last week, MIAL said it has asked airlines to co-ordinate with Navi Mumbai airport regarding the transition. “MIAL shall continue to engage closely with airlines, Navi Mumbai airport, government authorities, regulatory agencies and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate seamless implementation of the transition plan, maintain continuity of airline operations and minimise passenger inconvenience,” it said.Published on August 25, 2026
