Australia's current computing capacity stands at 1.6 GW, meaning the buildout could more than double the country's AI compute

Nvidia $NVDA announced on Thursday that it is partnering with eight Australian data center and cloud companies to expand AI computing capacity in the country, targeting a buildout of up to 2 gigawatts by 2027. Australia's existing computing capacity is 1.6 GW, per Reuters, which cited figures from analysts DC Byte, putting the planned expansion on track to more than double the nation's current load.
Nvidia listed eight partners in the announcement: Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk. The participating companies will operate what Nvidia calls AI factories — a label the company applies to deployments that integrate every layer from physical infrastructure and compute to networking, software, and reference designs, all anchored to its DSX platform. Nvidia said it will supply the DSX platform, accelerated computing, networking, software, and ecosystem support.
