Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) warned that the race to develop increasingly advanced artificial intelligence could pose serious risks, while backing an Anthropic researcher’s criticism of the industry’s approach to superintelligence.
Murphy Calls for AI Regulation
On Wednesday, Murphy shared on X a post from Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who quit the company, urging followers to read Coxon’s account and highlighting his concerns about the development of advanced AI.
"If you read anything today, read this," Murphy wrote. He said the problem Coxon described — "AI companies in a blind race to build a death machine first" — could be addressed through government oversight.
"Through a regulatory system that allows the research to continue, but in a way that doesn’t destroy us," he added.
