Life can be humbling sometimes.Point and laugh at the ACC’s former kings if you choose, but overconfidence comes for all of us. I’ve learned that the hard way here at Oddly Specific, where predicting exact scores and yardage totals is an invitation for the universe to make fun of you.After a 5-4 opening week, I have no business laughing at anybody — not even those terrible predictions some of you made. But I’ll summon the courage — or arrogance — to try again, beginning where we always do: stat-stuffers.Most passing yardsOregon-Oklahoma State looked like an elite quarterback matchup before Drew Mestemaker and the Cowboys laid an egg as nearly two-touchdown favorites at Tulsa last week. Dante Moore, meanwhile, opened with a career-high 378 yards and three touchdowns against Boise State — an effort the now sixth-ranked Ducks badly needed to pull out a win at home.Oklahoma State’s rebuilt roster doesn’t have enough defensive answers to survive four quarters of Moore, who throws for 425 yards and four touchdowns in a 24-point victory.Most rushing yardsDefending ACC champion Duke made it clear in its 17-3 win over Tulane last week that they’re ready to ride Nate Sheppard as much as necessary. The second-year player from Louisiana ran for 227 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 35 carries. Illinois, meanwhile, allowed UAB to rush for 194 yards on 48 carries in its 42-23 Week 1 win over the Blazers.Duke’s muddy passing game should ensure Sheppard another enormous workload. He carries it 30 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Illinois survives, 20-17, but doesn’t cover the 6.5-point spread.Most receiving yardsKJ Duff caught nine passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns and was responsible for 81 percent of starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan’s passing yardage in an embarrassing home loss to UMass last week. Boston College knows the ball is going to Duff on Friday night, but can the Eagles do anything about it? Duff gets peppered with targets from new starter AJ Surace and finishes with 11 catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns, including another score of at least 50 yards.Who wins? Boston College breaks a 21-21 tie and covers the 3.5-point spread with a late touchdown.Dabo Swinney, Clemson are the biggest losers from Week 1Manny NavarroFive big gamesNo. 11 Oklahoma (-5.5) at MichiganMichigan needed the replay officials to find one extra second between their couch cushions, allowing Bryce Underwood’s 47-yard Hail Mary to rescue the Wolverines in a one-point win over Western Michigan. Oklahoma’s defense is nasty. The Sooners led the country in both sacks per game (3.5) and tackles for loss per game (9.4) last season and opened 2026 by holding UTEP to 198 yards.Michigan’s defense will keep the Big House interested, but it won’t stop fans from booing their $12 million quarterback. OU quarterback John Mateer, meanwhile, accounts for three touchdowns, including two in the second half as Oklahoma forces two more Underwood turnovers and holds Michigan out of the end zone until the game has already been decided. OU wins 26-13.
