It’s no secret that when a new iPhone launches, older models tend to drop in price, making it a good time to pick up an upgrade. But Apple has done things a little differently this year, increasing the price of several existing iPhone models by £100 following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. But while Apple has raised its prices, retailers like Very, Curry, and Amazon haven’t followed suit. I’ve spotted the iPhone 17 Pro on sale at Very for £100 less than its previous £1,099 price, bringing the high-ticket phone down to £999.The same goes for the iPhone 16, which now costs £799 from Apple, while retailers like Very are still selling it for £699.Launched a year ago, The Independent’s technology critic David Phelan said the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are the “best iPhone ever” in his review of the models. He noted the super-fast performance, superb battery life and a “big leap forward in camera capabilities”, so you can guarantee little FOMO from the models this September. Plus the discounts right now make it all the more appealing. The Apple iPhone 17 Pro features novel technology like the brand’s advanced screen protection technology, Ceramic Shield 2, a wider camera panel that allows for more room for the battery and a 3,000-nit screen brightness. On the display, David said: “Apple’s ProMotion displays are spectacular, with pin-sharp detail, rich and accurate colours and wide viewing angles. The anti-reflection helps, too, though it’s a subtle rather than a night-and-day difference.” He also noted its powerful performance and a clever selfie camera that spins the picture’s orientation without needing to move your hand horizontally for ease.Right now, I’ve seen the price drop from £1,099 to £999 at Very, Currys, John Lewis and Amazon, while Affordable Mobiles currently has one of the cheapest iPhone 17 Pro deals. You can get the phone with 100GB of data for £49 per month and a £39 up-front cost.Buy now((David Phelan/The Independent))The Max version of the iPhone (think bigger screen and a longer-battery) is also seeing discounts across retailers, with Very cutting the price from £1,119 to £1,099. In his review, Phelan wrote: “It’s like Apple thought about all the boxes it could, and then ticked them all. Super-fast performance? Check. Best battery life yet? Check. A big leap forward in camera capabilities? Absolutely. And none of these metrics are coming from a low base.”And it’s not just at Very you’ll find this model reduced. Amazon has also cut the price to £1,099, as have Currys and John Lewis.Buy nowRead more: Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra launches soon – here’s what to know
