WeatherMet OfficeRain is expected to batter the nation on Friday as a wet week continues in the UK - the good news for some is that the Met Office is forecasting a drier weekend06:57, 10 Sep 2026The Met Office has forecast showers to cover much of the UK on Friday as 94 areas are expected to be hit by heavy rainfall.‌According to weather maps from the forecasters, the downpours will begin in the early hours and scatter across the nation throughout the day.‌The majority of Wales will experience the heaviest rain in the morning with a few areas in in the South East of England also seeing showers.‌These areas include Oxford and Reading as well as Swansea and Cardiff.Just before 6am, more areas will be hit by downpours including some of the East Midlands.‌Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham are all forecast showers in the morning.The Met Office forecast for Friday states: "Some showers, mainly in the morning across some northern and western areas. Otherwise Friday looks fine with sunny spells. Feeling pleasantly warm in the south, but remaining breezy further north."‌As the day continues, areas further north in England will also expect spells of rain, including Manchester, York and Sheffield.For Scotland, many areas will experience wet conditions throughout the day.‌By the afternoon, the band of rain in Wales remains however in England the showers have shifted further south towards the coast.Brighton, Bournemouth and Exeter are likely to be hit by rain after 12pm.Following wet spells on Friday, the forecaster predicts that despite some showers the weekend will be slightly drier.Article continues belowThe Met Office says: "Wet, and in places windy, weather will move southeastwards across the UK on Saturday, followed by sunshine and showers.
