US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the Iran war would end immediately after the midterm elections take place in the United States.

“I think the war will end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer. They’re desperate to try to affect the election,” Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One.

The US president, facing widespread criticism from Americans over inflation and rising prices on basic consumer goods, also said gas prices would come down after the election in November. “Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward. I think it’s going to take a little bit longer than the midterm,” he added.

Yet, Trump did not rule out further talks with Tehran. “Yes, a negotiation could possiblly happen, but it’s not something we’re looking at.”
