President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he believes the Iran war will end "immediately" after the US midterm elections in November.

"I think the war will end immediately after the election" because Iran "can't hold out any longer," Trump told journalists, accusing Tehran of being "desperate to try and affect" the vote.

Asked about the possibility of resumed talks with Tehran, Trump said "we’re not looking for it, to be honest", adding that "they have very little country left right now", but "a negotiation could possibly happen".

He also reiterated his intention to prohibit Iran from having nuclear weapons.
