El-Sayed has previously disavowed Piker’s comments, calling them “dumb,” and Piker has also said his remarks were “inappropriate.” Trump’s statements add to Islamophobic attacks that Republicans have levied against El-Sayed since his primary victory. They also marked one of multiple instances when Republicans referenced Piker during Wednesday’s convention. Trump Remembers Charlie Kirk Ahead Of Anniversary Of His DeathPresident Donald Trump took a moment to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed a year ago Thursday, during his remarks at the GOP convention on Wednesday.Trump also recognized Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, who was present at the convention. Erika Kirk took over as CEO of Turning Point USA after her husband was killed last year.Trump Says He'll Pay Every Citizen $5,000 If Republicans Win MidtermsPresident Donald Trump on Wednesday said if Republicans win the midterm elections in November, he will send $5,000 checks to every adult citizen in the U.S. “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them, because of our economic, tremendous economic success, like in history, we’ve never had anything like what’s happening, but because of our tremendous strength and success economically, economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”Trump doesn’t have legal authority to issue checks to everyone in America, and there’s no chance Congress would go along with the idea. But he insisted it would happen.“If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000, it will be called the Trump dividend,” he said. Trump Mention Of Thune Prompts Boos At RNC ConventionThe crowd at the Republican midterm booed when President Donald Trump mentioned Senate Majority Leader John Thune in his primetime speech. Thune has clashed with Trump on several occasions, including recently over the Senate’s schedule. Trump told the crowd not to boo Thune, telling them, “John is working hard. He’s got great opposition.” Trump: 'I'm Asking You To Pretend That I'm On The Ballot.'President Donald Trump is getting creative in his efforts to boost Republicans in the upcoming midterms, pleading with voters to “pretend” at the polls.“I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot,” the president said during his primetime speech at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas. “Just one more time, because if we lose, you’re going to lose your border,” he continued. “You’re going to lose your tax cuts. You’re going to lose your safety and security. You’re going to lose your wealth.” Trump seems to be aware that the GOP faces an uphill battle in the midterms as the president’s war with Iran drags on and living costs soar. But it is typical for the sitting president’s party to perform poorly in off-year elections. “Why is it that no matter how well you’re doing, we seem not a president, Democrat or Republican, almost never wins the midterms,” Trump said. “We’ve got to change that because we have something going that’s so good we can’t let that string be broken.”Bessent Attacks Biden Over Cost Of Living As Trump Faces Heat Over Gas PricesTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday threw a jab at former President Joe Biden over the cost of living during his administration just hours after President Donald Trump said that oil prices would likely stay high until after the midterms.“Everyday life became more expensive, and businesses on Main Street became burdened with red tape and overregulation,” Bessent argued about Biden’s tenure during a speech at Republicans’ midterm convention.Bessent’s remarks come as Trump has been heavily criticized for rising prices throughout his second term, including spikes in gas prices due to the U.S. war on Iran.“Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward,” Trump said earlier on Wednesday.Video Shows Crowd Sizes At GOP Midterm Convention — And Trump May Want To Look AwayFootage posted from the beginning of the Republican midterm convention showed largely empty stands as the two-day event kicked off in Dallas. A video posted by PBS White House Correspondent Liz Landers showed many of the upper sections of American Airlines Arena empty, while the seats on the floor closest to the stage were filled. Critics of the event quickly jumped at the chance to mock the crowd size, with former Democratic House staffer Aaron Fritschner saying the convention should have been held “in a high school gym.” The convention was also reportedly plagued by other issues early on, including long lines and wait times to enter the arena. If you sell death in a pill, you will be held accountable. If you choose violence, you will be held accountable. If you steal from people who work hard and pay taxes, you will be held accountable. Now that, that is making America safe again.” “President Trump and Vice President Trump set that course. They have always and will always back the blue,” he added. The remarks come more than a year after Trump pardoned thousands of Jan. 6 rioters, including those who were convicted of assaulting police. Blanche’s remarks on sex trafficking also rung particularly hollow: The former personal lawyer to Trump has been accused of withholding some 3 million documents related to the Epstein Files.Blanche also cast doubt on the Justice Department’s independence after his one-on-one interview of Ghislane Maxwell, the convicted sex offender and Jeffrey Epstein conspirator. After meeting with Maxwell, she was transferred to a lower security prison. The Bureau of Prisons, which reports directly to the Justice Department, has since stonewalled requests by lawmakers to see who made that decision.Blanche claimed Wednesday night that crime was down across the U.S. and attributed that in part to the administration’s deportation agenda. Crime rates were already down before Trump returned to the White House but Blanche attributed low crime rates to the removal of “criminal aliens” by ICE.Under the leadership of Trump, Blanche claimed, “2.6 million criminal aliens who entered the country illegally and should never have been released into our neighborhoods, are being swiftly removed.”Paxton Takes Aim At Talarico In Repetitive RNC SpeechTexas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the state’s GOP Senate nominee, gave a predictable speech at the party’s midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday, repeating many of the same talking points as his past speeches on the campaign trail. Paxton opened his speech by applauding President Donald Trump, whose super PAC sent $10 million to Paxton’s campaign as he faces an extremely tight race against Democrat James Talarico. A majority of the roughly 5-minute speech focused on the state’s affordability crisis and Paxton’s plans to cut taxes on some medical expenses and home down payments, while also touting his record as attorney general. “President Trump said I was the most effective attorney general in the country,” he said. “I will fight to preserve the American dream.”The speech closely resembled recent speeches Paxton has given across the state, painting Talarico as a radical Democrat who plans to increase taxes. “He is a Democratic socialist who never met a tax increase he didn’t love,” Paxton said. “California already has two senators, it doesn’t need a third.” “This guy is really obsessed with transitions,” he continued. “He wants to transition your kids.” See All Updates
