Shares of technology companies were more or less flat amid enthusiasm about new products from Meta Platforms and Apple.
Meta shares soared after the company unveiled its Muse artificial-intelligence agent, which could perform tasks such as making appointments and filling out forms for users.
One strategist said Muse's revenue potential would set some investors' minds at ease following concerns about potential overspending on AI infrastructure. "It's answering the bear case -- that capex is finally delivering return on investment capital," said Timothy Chubb, chief investment officer at Girard, a wealth-management firm owned by Univest.
Apple shares after the gadget maker launched its iPhone Duo, a foldable version of its smart phone that will retail for $1,999.
Alphabet's Google said it would spend more than $15 billion to develop AI infrastructure in Finland.
