Thessaloniki has an opportunity to shape a clear international tourism identity, to capitalize on its new infrastructure, investments and cultural heritage, Kathimerini’s “Reimagine Tourism in Greece” forum emphasized on Tuesday in the northern city.
The conference at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall emphasized the need for close cooperation between the public and private sectors and local governments, with the main priority being the creation of an independent and professional destination management body.
Critical issues are strengthening air travel connectivity, targeted international promotion and increasing the value of the hotel product.
At the same time, it was proposed to connect the city with Halkidiki, the wineries, museums and archaeological sites of Macedonia, in order to create integrated experiences.
The focus was on the roundtable discussion coordinated by Kathimerini Executive Editor Alexis Papachelas; with the participation of the mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis; the founder of the Sani/Ikos group Andreas Andreadis; and the head of the TOR Hotel Group Dinos Tornivoukas.
