On the afternoon of September 9, drones struck Russia’s key gas-producing region—the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug—for the first time.
This was reported by The Moscow Times, according to Ukrinform.
Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, stated that an industrial facility in Novy Urengoy was struck. According to him, “a fire broke out as a result of falling UAV debris,” and no one was injured. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Later, Artem Zhoga, the Russian President’s Plenipotentiary Representative in the Ural Federal District, stated that Ukrainian Armed Forces drones had attacked the Arctic part of the Ural Federal District (UrFD) for the first time: a fire broke out at a fuel and energy complex facility in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the facility’s personnel “were evacuated in a timely manner.”
According to Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels, the facility in question is the Novy Urengoy Condensate Processing Plant, which is part of Gazprom and has a capacity of 19.5 million metric tons per year.
