Ukraine reportedly attacked the Novy Urengoy condensate preparation plant in the city of Novy Urengoy in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, covering a distance of about 3,200 kilometers (1,988 miles) from Ukrainian territory .
Russian outlet Astra reported that Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked Yamal for the first time, and that a fire broke out at an industrial facility in Novy Urengoy on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Yamalo-Nenets Governor Dmitry Artyukhov confirmed that a drone attack had taken place.“Today, a drone attack on one of the industrial facilities in Novy Urengoy was repelled. As a result of the fall of UAV debris, a fire broke out. The extent and nature of the damage are being established. The governor did not specify which facility was targeted.Meanwhile, monitoring Telegram channels, including Exilenova+, identified the Novy Urengoy condensate preparation plant as the likely target.
The facility is a key part of the region’s gas-condensate infrastructure. Its design capacity is about 19.5 million tons per year.The Ukrainian company Fire Point also appeared to hint at its involvement, saying its drones had traveled more than 3,300 kilometers and successfully hit a target in Novy Urengoy.“Guess who covered more than 3,300 km and successfully hit the target,” the company wrote.
