The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the reported attack on the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, by suspected political thugs in Benue State.
The party noted that the attackers warned Obi against entering the state, describing the incident as an assault on citizens’ constitutional rights to freedom of movement, association and political participation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, the AAC said it remained ideologically opposed to both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the NDC but would not remain silent whenever democratic rights and freedoms were threatened.
“No governor owns Benue State, and no political party owns Nigeria,” the party said, insisting that every Nigerian has the right to move freely, campaign, associate with citizens and participate in political activities anywhere in the country.
