Protest has erupted in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State following the reported death of a young man at the General Hospital, with residents demanding urgent intervention to address alleged shortages of doctors, nurses and electricity at the facility.
The protest was staged by youths and other community members who expressed anger over what they described as the deteriorating condition of the government-owned hospital.
In a video shared on X by activist Chuks, the protesters said the death of the young man had further exposed what they alleged were longstanding deficiencies in healthcare services at the facility.
A protester speaking from the premises of the hospital said the community had lost a “vibrant youth” after what he described as a minor medical case allegedly could not be handled because a doctor was unavailable.
