FAW Trucks Southern Africa (FTSA) has celebrated the 25 000th truck rolling off the assembly line at its plant in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The first truck to be assembled at the Chinese manufacturer’s facility in Gqeberha was in 2014 – a FAW 15.180FL freight carrier.

While the plant in the first eight years largely added 1 000 units a year to its local production tally, the pace picked up significantly in 2022.

Cumulative truck assembly stood at 8 000 units by 2022, growing to 10 000 units by November 2023, 15 000 units by April 2024, 20 000 units by July 2025, with the 25 000th unit reached in June this year.

FTSA says the heavy end of the range has led the manufacturer’s charge in Southern Africa.
