With Vinayaka Chaturthi fast approaching, ‘Varuna Yagam’ (a ritual to invoke rain) was performed at the Vinayaka ghat under the auspices of the Kurnool city Ganesha Utsava Samithi on Wednesday. The ritual was performed so that the Vinayaka ghat will have enough water for the immersion of Ganesh idols installed in the city.The ritual included the worship and invocation of Lord Varuna, ‘Varuna Japa’ (chanting), recitation of the ‘Virata Parva’, ‘Varuna Homam’ (fire ritual), and ‘Purnahuti’.According to the committee members, similar rituals were performed during adverse weather conditions in the past as well.The event was attended by festival committee president Moksheshwarudu, secretaries Kasi Viswanath, Nagaraju, and Pratap Reddy, former MLA S.V.
