Everyone loves dessert. But nutritionally, it can be tricky territory.

Cookies, cakes, brownies, candies and other sugary treats are among the leading sources of added sugars - and studies show that eating too much added sugar can increase the risk of health problems such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

But you don’t have to give up dessert entirely. Health experts say it’s fine to indulge from time to time. In fact, it can even be good for you. Studies have found that when people are trying to lose weight, they’re more likely to keep it off over the long term if they don’t deprive themselves of their favorite foods and treats. They also experience a greater reduction in food cravings compared with people who restrict their favorite foods.
