City Power seizes R200,000 electricity infrastructure in Alexandra illegal connections.

City Power has seized approximately 180kg of mixed aluminium cables and three electricity poles worth an estimated R200,000 during a joint operation targeting illegal electricity connections in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

The operation, conducted on Thursday along London Road and in the Greenville informal settlement, was carried out with the assistance of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the crackdown forms part of the utility's commitment to intensify efforts to curb illegal electricity connections following the recent Alexandra Electricity Imbizo.

Mangena said that during the operation, officials uncovered a network of hazardous makeshift electricity connections, with bare aluminium cables strung between poles, rooftops and informal structures.
