Backroom rental business owners in Diepsloot Extension 6 have raised concerns over tenants leaving their rental rooms due to the absence of electricity.

Seven electricity transformers worth approximately R1.5 million have been recovered in Tembisa following a joint operation by Gauteng law enforcement agencies, with six suspects arrested in connection with the alleged theft and unlawful possession of critical electricity infrastructure.

The operation involved the Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the Gauteng Infrastructure Unit and TDP Security Services.

The six suspects are being processed at Ivory Park Police Station and face several charges, including contraventions of the Immigration Act, aiding and abetting illegal foreigners by providing accommodation, and the unlawful damaging, removal and destruction of electricity transmission, distribution and reticulation infrastructure.

They also face charges relating to the unlawful possession of electricity distribution equipment and infrastructure.
