The Spice Girls have whipped fans into a frenzy by sharing a rather cryptic announcement following months of speculation that they could be preparing to tour14:36, 09 Sep 2026Updated 15:03, 09 Sep 2026The Spice Girls have sent fans into a frenzy with the release of a cryptic announcement. In recent months, the girl group have reportedly been locked in secret talks, planning how they would mark the huge anniversary of the release of their debut single, Wannabe.‌And now, it appears that plans could have been finalised, with the group taking to social media to tease their big announcement.‌It would be the first time Geri Horner, Melanie Brown MBE, Melanie C and Emma Bunton have performed in public since 2019 – but Victoria hasn't been on stage with her bandmates since the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The group were due to perform at the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, but Mel B previously revealed that they had to pull out of the ceremony.‌"10.09.2026 | 2pm BST," they said, alongside a video, which dropped several huge clues – a particular clue about performing. The video, however, proved to be very meaningful to the band, for the intro of Wannabe was the sound used, and it was filmed on the steps of the St Pancras Hotel, where the group shot the video for their debut single, and it is instantly recognisable in the history of the chart-mauling girl group."Excuse me?" exclaimed one fan. While a second penned: "I'm sorry, what now?!" "Omg! wtf is this! I'm gonna throw up," added a third. A fourth commented: "I was feeling sad & low but you guys will take me Where I Gotta Go."‌"Screaming, crying, throwing up," exclaimed another. While Victoria has previously ruled out touring with the band again, she has said she would be open to a residency, preferably at the Sphere in Las Vegas.Meanwhile, Melanie Brown has never shied away from saying she is the constant driving force behind getting all five members of the band back on stage.‌She said earlier this year: "It's our 30th anniversary, I do think we should be doing something. Whether that actually happens or not is another story, but we're all talking about it because, if not anything, just for our fans. They've been so loyal, and they're just there all the time – even now, 30 years on."For that, we should be doing something, but I can't say what that is right now, because nothing has been confirmed or signed off on."‌But prior to this, Melanie C implied that while talks were ongoing, there might not be a reunion. Speaking on Australia's KIIS Radio, she said: "We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when."But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future."In November last year, Melanie C confirmed that she and her bandmates had been locked in talks about opportunities. She said on Good Morning America: "We're talking and we're seeing what opportunities are out there. The thing that stops us is we feel so precious about it, we want to make sure it's the right thing and agree on the right thing."‌Victoria, although she hasn't toured with the group since 2007, said she "didn't belong on the stage" but would be open to a residency. "It would be tempting. But could I take on a world tour? No I can't. I have a job," she commented, adding: "How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere! I love the idea of it. I mean I don't know if I could even still sing, I mean I was never that great."Emma, known as Baby Spice, said just last month that it would be "lovely" for the band to commemorate their 30th anniversary, but said she didn't know how the group would celebrate. She commented: "It's our 30th anniversary coming up and, you know, we would like to celebrate in some way. What way that is, we don't know at the moment."Last year, Geri Horner, also known as Ginger Spice, told The Sunday Times, "there will be something" involving all five members. She said: "My hope is we come back together as a collective. It's more respectful to come as one. We'll come as one."Article continues belowLike this story?
