The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near the town of Al-Azraq in Jordan with ballistic missiles, a claim swiftly refuted by the Jordanian military, which stated that 18 out of 20 missiles launched from Iran were intercepted.
In a statement published around midnight on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the IRGC claimed that repair, maintenance, and preparation hangars, alongside stationing quarters for F-15, F-16, and F-35 fighter jets at the base, were struck by solid- and liquid-fuel ballistic missiles.
The military body further claimed to have inflicted “heavy damage” on the base’s facilities, though it released no verifiable footage or evidence to support the assertion.
The Jordanian Armed Forces announced in the early hours of Wednesday, September 9, that the country’s air defense systems destroyed 18 of the 20 ballistic missiles fired from Iranian territory. According to the Jordanian military, the remaining two missiles landed in uninhabited areas, resulting in no casualties.
Reuters, citing an American official, also reported that the Iranian attack on Jordan was ineffective and that all U.S. forces stationed in the country were accounted for. The official dismissed reports claiming that a large number of American troops were injured.
