The United States has announced new import restrictions on a range of Canadian products, including dairy goods, alcoholic drinks and motorbikes, as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on American goods take effect.
The new US measures, announced in a series of executive orders by President Donald Trump on Tuesday, will take effect on September 29. The White House accused Canada of discriminating against American businesses by restricting US goods while allowing similar products from other countries into its market.

The restrictions include a complete ban on imports of some products, such as whey, cane molasses and non alcoholic beer. Higher tariffs will also apply to products including cheese, paper, furniture, metals, motorboats and golf carts.
The latest measures deepen a trade dispute that has strained relations between the two neighbours and disrupted businesses on both sides of the border.
