Critics call for ban on wearable used to covertly film women

The rise of smart glasses is pushing privacy concerns into mainstream view.

“It’s outrageous that they can film so easily without your knowledge”, tech founder Liz Hunter told Euractiv.

Last month Hunter launched “StopSmartGlasses” – an online campaign calling for the tech to be banned in the UK, arguing the wearable is too easy to abuse.

The most popular device is made by social media giant Meta, in partnership with Ray-Ban. Meta sold seven million pairs last year, according to an annual report by the luxury eyewear company’s parent, EssilorLuxottica.
