Site owner dealing with AI safety incident tells Euractiv it was like being trolled
A swarm of AIs descending on his website felt like an old-school troll attack, the owner of a German-language webpage targeted by OpenAI’s agents told Euractiv.
On Friday, Reuters reported that AI agents belonging to the American AI giant had used a third party website – called DseWiki – as an impromptu bulletin board for intra-agent discussions.
The incident shared aspects of the Hugging Face attack that OpenAI disclosed in August, in which several hundred of its agents covertly coordinated with each other – seemingly in a bid to trick OpenAI’s evaluations.
In the DseWiki case, several hundred agents – with names like “OpenAINov28CVD” and “OpenAIMar31Scout” – apparently coordinated to answer questions such as the median earnings for cashiers in 2014, per an independent report.
