Apple’s first foldable iPhone could become one of the company’s most expensive smartphones yet, and Nigerian consumers may have to pay more than N3 million to own one when it eventually reaches the local market.

Apple is expected to unveil the long-rumoured foldable iPhone at its September 9, 2026 launch event, which marks the company’s first major entry into a smartphone category dominated for years by Samsung, Huawei and other Android manufacturers.

Reports have put the starting price at around $1,999, although Apple is yet to confirm the price ahead of the launch officially.

At the September 9 exchange rate of about N1,321.37 to the dollar, a $1,999 starting price translates to approximately N2.64 million before any additional costs.

This figure is, however, unlikely to be the final amount Nigerian buyers would pay because once the device enters Nigeria, importation and logistics costs, taxes, distribution expenses, retailer margins, and fluctuations in the naira-dollar exchange rate could push the local selling price significantly higher.
