The DMK has announced demonstrations at its headquarters in all districts on September 12, 2026, in condemnation of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s speech in the Assembly denigrating party president M.K. Stalin over his arrest during the Emergency and the torture he suffered in prison.“He ridiculed Kalaignar, who was the Chief Minister of the State five times, Murasoli Maran, a world-renowned political expert, and M.K. Stalin, who was arrested under MISA [Maintenance of Internal Security Act, 1971], when he was just 23 and tortured in prison. The Chief Minister has ridiculed the sacrifice of our leader M.K. Stalin. His speech is highly condemnable and Tamil Nadu has never witnessed such an abhorrent speech,” a statement from the DMK headquarters said.‘Indecent and uncivil speech’The DMK said Mr. Vijay’s speech had thrown the dignity of the Assembly to the winds and that the leaders whose portraits adorned the walls of the House “would have hung their heads in shame and shed tears.”“Some Ministers, even after realising that what they had spoken was wrong, spread them through memes and reels. They expunge the remarks after they have reached the people. They have converted the Assembly into a platform for their tricks,” the DMK alleged.The DMK also said Mr. Vijay, who was unable to answer questions on the failures of his government, had resorted to indecent and uncivil speeches.“He has become a Chief Minister by capitalising on the attraction of the film world and its glitter, building an image through social media and creating problems in families by cheating children. He could not win a majority and formed the government by offering positions to those who had won the election as part of the DMK alliance.
