ANC member Anele Gabuza challenged Yanga Mjingwana’s nomination as the party’s Ward 98 candidate in Khayelitsha.

The Western Cape High Court has struck off the roll the bid by ANC member Anele Gabuza to challenge his removal from the councillor candidate list for the City of Cape Town.

Gabuza filed an urgent application last week challenging the party’s decision to nominate Yanga Mjingwana as the candidate for Ward 98 in Khayelitsha.

The respondents included the ANC, the national executive committee, Western Cape Provincial Task Team, the ANC Electoral Committee, ANC Western Cape Provincial List Committee, and Mjingwana and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Although in his notice of motion Gabuza had intended the matter to be heard on September 1, at 4pm or soon thereafter, it was only heard on Monday, where it was struck off the roll with costs, including costs of two senior counsel.
