ANC councillor Anele Gabuza challenges candidate nomination in court

ANC Ward 98 councillor Anele Gabuza has approached the Western Cape High Court to challenge the party’s nomination of Yanga Mjingwana as its candidate for the November local government elections.

This after Gabuza gave the ANC an ultimatum until 10am last Monday to furnish him with the name of the candidate upon learning that the name Yanga Mjingwana was submitted to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

In his court papers, the respondents are the ANC, the national executive committee, Western Cape Provincial Task Team (PTT), Electoral Committee, Western Cape Provincial List Committee, Mjingwana and the IEC.

However, the ANC Dullar Omar Regional Committee and Ward 98 branch executive committee are curiously not cited as interested parties to the urgent application.
