The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the conviction and 490-year imprisonment handed down to Robert Orya, a former managing director of the Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), over a N2.4 billion fraud case.
A three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Muhammed Danjuma, on Tuesday, upheld the judgment of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, which convicted Orya on 49 counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and advance fee fraud.
Orya was sentenced by Frances Messiri on February 5, 2026, after the court found him guilty on all 49 counts filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The trial court imposed a 10-year prison term on each of the 49 counts, amounting to 490 years.
However, the sentences are to run concurrently.
