Days after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raghav Chadha claimed that his name was deleted from the draft voter list prepared during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Punjab, the Rajya Sabha MP’s name was included in the draft rolls in Delhi, The Indian Express reported.The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday alleged that Chadha had illegally registered himself as a voter in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency.AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda claimed that the Rajya Sabha MP’s name was added to the Delhi draft electoral roll in a “backdoor manner”, ANI reported. Dhanda claimed that the original roll released on August 31 showed 746 names, while Chadha’s name figured as the 747th entry later.Responding to the allegations, Chadha said that he had complied with all applicable Election Commission guidelines and procedures and availed of the remedies prescribed under the law, The Indian Express reported. He described the allegations as “frivolous”.He alleged that the AAP leadership was targeting him since he left the party, ANI reported. Chadha had left the AAP to join the BJP in April.On Thursday, Chadha had claimed that the Election Commission had classified him as having shifted from his registered address in Mohali. He alleged that this was a “clear case of political vendetta” by the AAP government in Punjab.On the inclusion of Chadha’s name in Delhi’s electoral roll, the office of the Delhi chief electoral officer said that names are added, deleted or modified in the electoral rolls only on the basis of Forms 6, 7 and 8.In a statement on social media, it said that around 2.14 lakh Form 6 applications for the enrolment of new electors were received between June 16 and August 31, when the electoral roll was kept frozen for preparation of the SIR draft. Applications for new voter registration are not processed for inclusion during the draft roll stage, it said.Since the draft roll was published, more than 25,000 Form 6 applications have been submitted across Delhi in the eight days up to Monday, according to the CEO’s office. Of these, electoral registration officers had approved 700 applications as of Tuesday.
