Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted several vessels that attempted to pass through what it described as the "forbidden and unsafe area" of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the IRGC's latest statement, its navy attacked and "caused great damage" to two American vessels and eight oil tankers in retaliation to earlier US strikes on Iranian vessels.

It also targeted 10 "violating ships", that it said were "attempting to pass through the prohibited and unsafe area of the Strait of Hormuz, with the instigation and support of the invading terrorist army of the United States".

"The Strait of Hormuz is under the strong and powerful surveillance and management of the capable and brave naval force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," it added.
