AEK made a very positive start to its first ever league phase campaign in the Champions League, beating visiting LASK 1-0 on Tuesday at the Allwyn Arena.
In the game that launched open this year’s regular season in the world’s top club competition, AEK proved ready for the challenge and started with three precious points in the bag.
The Greek champion was clearly the better team, but was unable to translate its supremacy and chance creation into more goals, especially from open play.
What its strikers, such as Barnabas Varga, Luka Jovic and Zini, failed to do, came from a set piece by Razvan Marin on the 21st minute.
