Nearly six years after the New York Post published a front-page story about a computer left behind at a Delaware repair shop, the owner of said computer, Hunter Biden, is cashing in on the “laptop from hell” with a meme coin designed to both make him some money and mock Donald Trump.

Available September 9, the token will trade under the ticker $LAPTOP, a reference to the infamous device, which contained messages about foreign business dealings and nude photos of Biden doing drugs and became the Republican Party’s singular obsession in the weeks before the 2020 election (and for years after). According to The Wall Street Journal, one billion tokens will be issued, 30 percent of which will be held by the coin’s co-founders, who cannot sell for six months. Another 20 percent will “be sent, in two batches, to crypto wallets belonging to people who lost money on $TRUMP, the president’s meme coin, subscribers to Hunter Biden’s Substack and a mailing list curated by his friend Andrew Callaghan, a video journalist.” (In July, the New York Times reported that while the president made $636 million off of his eponymously named meme coin last year, the rank-and-file investors lost a total of $3.81 billion through the end of June.)
