The local stock market somehow managed to extend its rising streak on Tuesday, despite the decline of the majority of stocks and of the banks index. This fourth session of gains for the bourse has taken its benchmark to highs unseen since late October 2009. Driving the index higher where a handful of blue chips, led by influential Coca-Cola HBC, which fended off some late pressure by sellers.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,706.65 points, adding 0.15% to Monday’s 2,702.54 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.17% to end at 6,914.78 points, though mid-caps slid 0.09%.

The banks index contracted 0.14%, as Eurobank lost 1.19%, Piraeus eased 0.23% and Alpha conceded 0.19%, while Optima augmented 0.94%, Bank of Cyprus obtained 0.57%, National advanced 0.43% and CrediaBank improved 0.10%.

In total, 49 stocks secured gains, 54 endured losses and 17 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to €243.3 million, up from Monday’s €241.8 million.
