Peter Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, has died in Kano after a prolonged illness.

Onwubuariri, 48, who was also a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), died on Monday after spending about a month receiving treatment at the Kano Cancer Hospital under a treatment authorisation by the Kano State Government.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri.

The remains of the presidential media aide were released from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on Tuesday for onward transportation to Owerri, Imo State, where he is expected to be buried.

At AKTH, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Abba Kabir Yusuf, governor of Kano State, formally handed over the remains to Oche Echeija Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, who received them on behalf of Bayou Onanuga, presidential spokesperson.
