Patrick Clancy’s attorney has warned that police have been notified about conspiracy theorists promoting the idea that Clancy, and not his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy, killed their three children.“Enough is enough ― this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Howard Cooper said Tuesday in a statement provided to media outlets. “Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified.”Even though Lindsay Clancy was on trial this past month for killing her three children, her ex-husband Patrick Clancy has become the center of internet conspiracy theories, with thousands of people on social media theorizing that he actually killed the children and made Lindsay Clancy believe she did.The trial of Lindsay Clancy, in which her defense argued she was suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis when she killed her children, engulfed social media as people shared their deeply divided views on the case. The division went further when some began to take evidence and testimony out of context and used it to accuse Patrick Clancy of criminal activity.Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney argued in his closing statements that police conducted a “lousy investigation” into the deaths, attempting to add to the doubt that Lindsay Clancy should be held criminally responsible for the killings, but some social media users took that and theorized that Patrick Clancy was responsible for them.Patrick Clancy, who has remarried since the deaths of his children, testified during the five-week trial. His attorney said in Tuesday’s statement that Patrick Clancy and his family “have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign.”“This campaign, now fueled by insatiable media coverage, remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life,” Cooper said. “Patrick has no choice but to address this situation — with the clear goal of stopping injurious behavior, creating accountability for lies that are self-serving to the perpetrators, and being able to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges.”The judge declared a mistrial in the case on Friday when the jury said it couldn’t come to a unanimous decision after seven days of deliberating. A status hearing for the case is scheduled for the end of the month.
