The "My Feed, My Way" initiative would require platforms to notify users and let them choose between algorithmic and non-algorithmic feeds

Australia's federal government released draft legislation Tuesday that would require social media platforms to let users choose whether their feeds are driven by algorithms or limited to accounts they follow.
The proposal, called "My Feed, My Way," would require platforms to notify both new and existing users so each can pick a preferred default feed. Under the proposal, Australians 16 and older would decide whether to receive algorithm-curated content or limit their feeds to accounts they have personally chosen to follow, the government said. Non-compliant platforms could be fined as much as 109.2 million Australian dollars.
