Stakeholders in the tourism sector on Tuesday gathered at Cedapeg Hotels Uyo for the 2026 Tourism Roundtable to brainstorm ways to add value to the development efforts of the Akwa Ibom State Government in the sector.
With the theme, “Repositioning Akwa Ibom State as Nigeria’s Preferred Tourism and Hospitality Destination” the roundtable was organised by the State Chapters of Nigeria Hotels (NHA) Association and the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN).
Edem Duke, a former Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, served as Keynote Speaker, while Emmanuel Ekuwem, a former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, chaired the event
Speaking on the topic, Unlocking the Economic Power of Tourism in Akwa Ibom State: From Potential to Prosperity, Duke acknowledged the outstanding development of the transportation sector in the State’s landscape and infrastructure and called on the government to sustain the tempo or risk the chances of being overtaken by others, who are competing rigorously to be at the top.
He applauded the organisers of the event, which he said offered the stakeholders an opportunity to brainstorm on the way forward and how to explore the State’s rich tourism potential, growing hospitality sector and the opportunities available to position the state as a leading destination in Nigeria.
