While the T20 Tri-Series in Namibia served primarily as an opportunity for the Proteas to experiment and test their squad depth, several standout individual performances were impossible to ignore.
Chief among them was the leadership and precision of Bjorn Fortuin.
As a left-arm spinner who has spent his international career competing directly with Keshav Maharaj for a starting spot, Fortuin's opportunities for the national side have been limited. However, taking the captain's arm-band for the series against Namibia and Zimbabwe, he hardly put a foot wrong—even following a shock defeat to the hosts in the tournament opener.
In that opening match, Fortuin returned figures of 2/17 in his four overs, making him by far the most economical bowler in the South African attack. While fellow spinner Prenelan Subrayen picked up 3/32, he conceded a much higher rate of eight runs per over.
