Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has urged South Africans to secure their identity documents ahead of the November 4 elections.
South Africans who do not have valid identity documents have been urged to apply for or collect their IDs without delay as the country prepares for the Local Government Elections on November 4.
The Department of Home Affairs issued the call on Monday, warning citizens against waiting until the last minute to secure the documents needed to participate in the elections.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber said access to identity document services had been significantly expanded, including through hundreds of participating bank branches.
“A valid ID document holds the key to democratic participation in the upcoming elections,” Schreiber said.
